FAIR GAME – Trailer

A suspense-filled glimpse into the dark corridors of political power, FAIR GAME is a riveting action-thriller based on the autobiography of real-life undercover CIA operative VALERIE PLAME (Naomi Watts), whose career was destroyed and marriage strained to its limits when her covert identity was exposed by a politically motivated press leak.

As a covert officer in the CIA’s Counter-Proliferation Division, Valerie leads an investigation into the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Valerie’s husband, diplomat JOE WILSON (Sean Penn), is drawn into the investigation to substantiate an alleged sale of enriched uranium from Niger. But when the administration ignores his findings and uses the issue to support the call to war, Joe writes a New York Times editorial outlining his conclusions and ignites a firestorm of controversy.

FAIR opens in theaters on November 5, 2010 (limited).

  1. And now watch who has her comeback: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SLn4a5W3lY
That would be a (happy end) story if she wins against a republican, that would be a cold revenge 😀

  2. In 2010, Summit Entertainment released Doug Liman’s Fair Game. The film pretty much disappeared the moment it was released. The movie was based on the Plame affair, where the Bush Administration outed the identity of covert CIA agent Valerie Plame as retaliation for her husband, Joe Wilson, penning an op-ed casting doubt on the administration’s claim that Saddam Hussein had sought quantities of uranium from Africa. The affair led to a criminal investigation where Scooter Libby, an adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney, was convicted of lying to investigators, but his sentence was commuted by Bush and he was recently pardoned by Donald Trump.

Liman tells Indiewire he was never fully satisfied with his original cut of Fair Game, and talked about butting head with Sean Penn, who played Wilson, in the editing room:

“Sean had things going on in his personal life when we were making the film, impacting his performance,” Liman said. “What he considered a genius performance and what I considered a genius performance were not necessarily the same. You can’t necessarily corral genius on set, but you can do it in the editing room.”

The film will hit digital platforms on October 23rd and Netflix on November 1st.

    Quote:
    DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT – FAIR GAME Friday, September 14, 2018

I was never truly satisfied with the version of Fair Game that was theatrically released in 2010. I knew that Naomi Watts and Sean Penn had given more compelling performances, and that the proximity of making the movie to the events it portrayed had not given me the perspective of time. I owed it to myself, to Naomi, to Sean, to Valerie Plame, and to my audience, to go back in and do better.

I recognized that re-cutting and rereleasing a film is a little like an artist showing up with a brush and paint to the home of someone who bought his painting to make a few changes. I mean are you really allowed to do that? And then I thought. Why not.

And then Trump pardoned Scooter Libby – and releasing the director’s cut of Fair Game took on new urgency for me. Remember that in 2003 the White House leaked the identity of covert CIA officer Valerie Plame to deflect attention from her husband Joe Wilson who publicly challenged the Bush administration’s rationale for going to war in Iraq. And Scooter Libby was convicted of four counts, including obstruction of justice and lying to the FBI, and sentenced to jail. By a jury of 12 citizens.

Academy Award-winning editor Stephen Mirrione, who cut my first films, did this recut with me.

Now that Trump has pardoned Scooter Libby, the story is done (as pardons are forever). I went back into the film one last time to reflect that pardon. I can now say with confidence that the film finally is finished.

My hope is that audiences are reminded to hold their government accountable and remember that the actions of just one or two individuals can make a difference. — Doug Liman

  3. Just watched this on Netflix. Can't believe how amateur this picture is – like a television movie. I'm really surprised, as the director is the same talented Doug Liman who made Swingers and Go. Fair Game manages to make both Naomi Watts and Sean Penn look like mediocre actors – quite an achievement. Not sure what the problem is, though maybe the screenplay is badly written? Or maybe Liman just stepped into an area that was beyond his competence.

  4. The problem with this movie is centered around "Self Righteousness". The truth is humanity is severely flawed. Left, right whatever! Evil comes in many disguises and it has nothing to do with left or right. America was doned a democracy in 1776. Some call it a Republic. Some want a socialist government(the left). The "truth" is available through historic record which could be flawed and incorrect as well. However, a socialist government has never sustained and will always fail due to power hungry narcissistic dictators disguised as caring leaders of the people. Look at Hitler, Pol Pot of Cambodia, Ho Chi Min of Vietnam, Stalin of the U.S.S.R. and lately Nicolás Maduro of Venezuala.
This movie is speaking from a socialist perspective in the guise of ideology that is nice in thought " we all want to live together in peace and harmony but it is not attainable because of greed and power. You've heard the phrase, "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely!" Hello!
Democratic societies historically have lasted about 200 years. America, arguably the most successful society in history is being pulled appart and on my view it started during the Gulf War and was pumped up during 'Obama's regime. Like it or not it's true. Power hungry people will always corrupt. Socialist societies have never survived.
For Anlmerica to survive, stop open borders, insure people earn the right to be here, clean up the government and stop allowing the influence peddlers, "lobbyists" hired by big corporations and break the direction of a Corprotocracy and recenter our nation on Judeo-Christian biblical values that made America strong and attracted people from all over the world to be a part of the great experiment. Maybe then our children and grandchildren will have a chance. Thats my 2 cents.

  11. "You can't break me. I don't have, a breaking point." Wow…. SURE YA DON'T. That's total bullshit. EVERYONE HAS A BREAKING POINT AND ESPECIALLY WOMEN. This is probably just one of those movies trying to display how women are equal to men. Nope. NEVER will be true. All women seek equality with men until it comes to sharing the closet, taking out the trash, and picking up the check. OR, Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street bald and still think they are beautiful!

  12. LOL @ this drek. Valerie Plame was in "Who's who" of Washington DC. AS a CIA agent. She hadn't been in the field for years. Hell, her hhusband used to brag his wife worked for the CIA.

  13. A re-make of the Cindy Crawford/Billy Baldwin movie of the same title. They can't make that movie any better… masterpiece.

  14. @badger555555
